Isn’t being a programmer just coding?

Isn’t being a programmer just coding? umm no programming is more then just typing statements or laying down code, it’s more of an art, or a machine of many peices working together as one…

You have to be able to take a problem and break it into little pieces that result in one big finished product … so in a way we’re architects

You have to be able to communicate with a variety of people in order to gather requirements… so we are CSRs and People Whisperers

You have to be able to take the incomplete requirements of the client and then find the rest of them … so we are detectives (Sherlock Holmes specifically :P)

You need to be able to find a single missing comma, or semi-colon in thousands of lines of code… so we’re editors

You need to be able to evaluate the truth in any statement… so in a way we are interrogators

You have to be able to understand how a system that you have never heard of before works, and this often means becoming knowledgeable in the field … so really we are everything…

Programming is really about wearing hats… lots and lots of hats. so in the midst of all this we need to be able to co-ordinate as well
